Grid Domination Tactics: Strategy Guide

A competitive strategy guide for Domination Wars — the multiplayer grid conquest game. If you play territorial-style games and want to climb the weekly rankings, this guide covers the tactics that separate map dominators from the mid-pack.

How Domination Wars works

You share one 100×100 grid with every other player. Each tile you own generates 1 score point per hour, and the weekly leaderboard resets every Monday at 00:00 UTC. You regenerate 10 reserve tiles per hour up to a cap of 30. Every placement must be adjacent to a tile you already own, so where you spend those reserves decides whether you snowball or stall.

1. Reserve management is everything

The 30-tile cap is the single most important number in the game. Sitting at 30/30 for hours is wasted regeneration — every full hour at the cap is 10 tiles you'll never get back. Two rules:

  • Log in at least every 3 hours during the day to spend down to zero.
  • Before you sleep or go offline, drop your reserves on defensive interior tiles, not exposed frontlines. Interior tiles thicken your territory so a raider can't slice you in half.

2. Capture the vulnerable, not the strong

Since every tile scores the same, capturing 10 unclaimed tiles is identical to capturing 10 tiles from another player — except capturing from a rival also drains their score generation. Prioritize:

  • Isolated single tiles and thin "one-tile-wide" chokepoints.
  • The top-ranked player's frontier, if you can reach it.
  • Contested borders already flagged by the red danger zone pulse.

3. Grow in blobs, not lines

A long snake of tiles looks impressive but every tile in it is a border tile — capturable from three sides. A compact 5×5 blob has 16 interior tiles that nobody can touch without first eating through the shell. Expand outward in a rough circle, then thicken before you push again.

4. Play the score, not the tile count

The leaderboard ranks by accumulated score over the week, not tiles owned right now. A player who dominated Monday and Tuesday can coast on Sunday. That means:

  • Early week: expand aggressively. Every extra tile compounds for the full week.
  • Mid week: consolidate. Thicken borders, cut off exposed arms.
  • Late week: switch to raiding the leader. You can't easily out-generate them anymore, but you can drain them.

5. Read the danger zones

When an enemy places next to you, the affected area pulses red for 45 seconds. Those are your active war fronts. Reinforce them immediately rather than expanding elsewhere — a lost border tile is worth two placed tiles because it also gives the enemy a new adjacency to push from.

6. Pick your spawn

Corners and edges have fewer adjacent tiles, which limits how fast you can be surrounded. Open-field spawns near the center reach more territory faster but expose you on all four sides. If you can only log in once a day, a corner is the safer opening.
